ENGLISH
Christmas is a special holiday in Poland. Christmas trees are set in every home and decorated with sparkling tinsel, lights, glass balls. Christmas Eve is called in Poland WIGILIA. On Christmas Eve when the first star appears in the sky people sit at a table. The most popular dishes for Christmas supper are: red borsh, carp, mushroom dumplings, herrings, poppy-seed cake, gingerbread cookies. The old tradition says that there should be twelve dishes on the table. Before the supper members of the family share the holy wafer and after supper they give each other presents which were put under the Christmas tree. At midnight many people go to church to attend a special mass. On the 25 December people go to the church and in the afternoon they visit relatives.
There is also a tradition of making special seasonal decoration called SZOPKA- a crib.
The crib in Kraków city looks different, it looks like like a model of a cathedral or a castle.
There are performances at school, too.
In Poland Santa comes and bring presents to children on the 6 December. On Christmas Eve we get presents again - some people say they are presents from Santa and some say they are from the Angel.

Szopka krakowska wyróżnia sie swoim wyglądem i przypomina swoją konstrukcją katedrę albo zamek. W szkole odbywają się
występy i przedstawienia.
W Polsce Mikołaj przychodzi do dzieci z prezentami 6 grudnia.
