EASTER IN POLAND

Here are some drawings that kids from our school prepared for you.

Celebrating Easter in Poland

After 40 days of Lent comes the Easter holiday. It begins with Palm Sunday. On Good Friday people are supposed not to eat meat. On Easter Saturday we go to church to bless eggs and other food, which are earlier papered and put in a basket. In the basket we put food including some bread, eggs, a sugar lamb, salt, meat. Eggs are painted and decorated with different patterns. We call them “pisanki”. To the basket we also put some bread, meat or a sausage, some sweats and salt. Easter eggs are a symbol of the new life. On Easter Saturday people visit also the tomb of Jesus Christ in the church. Tradition says that the tomb must be looked after young boys or men the whole night before the Easter Sunday.
On Easter Sunday morning the Christians take part in the procession and in the special mess called Resurrection. On Easter Monday , a “Wet Monday”, boys splash girls with water. It is an old tradition called "Śmigus dyngus”. All children are very wet but it’s fun for them.
We'll publish more photos next week.

SPRING IN POLAND

We celebrate the first day of spring on March 21st.
We are going to show you some photos taken on that day this year next time.
Have a look at some pictures that students from year 2a and 2b have drawn.
And here's what they wan't to tell you about spring in Poland:

IN SPRING EVERYTHING IS GREEN AND MANY FLOWERS COME TO BLOSSOM:
SNOWDROPS, FORGET ME NOTS, DAISIES, TULIPS, DAFFODILS, VIOLETS.
MANY WILD FLOWERS BLOOM ON THE MEADOW. TREES AND BUSHES LOOK VERY NICE, TOO.
MANY BIRDS COME TO POLAND IN SPRING. WHEN YOU SEE STORKS IN POLAND
IT MEANS THAT SPRING HAS COME.
THEY WILL STAY UNTIL AUTUMN AND THEN THEY’LL FLY AWAY AGAIN.
THERE IS A TRADITION OF CELEBRATING THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING IN POLAND. ON THE 21st MARCH MANY SCHOOLS PREPARE PERFORMANCES. KIDS SING DANCE AND ACT. EVERYONE IS HAPPY TO WELCOME SPRING AFTER LONG, COLD WINTER. IN SOME PICTURES DRAWN BY STUDENTS YOU CAN SEE THE EFFIGY THAT SYMBOLISES WINTER. IT WAS  USED IN PAGAN CEREMONY THAT SUPPOSED TO TAKE THE WINTER AWAY.
